In 1936, as Texas celebrated its centennial, Amon G. Carter aimed to rival Dallas's official exhibition by organizing Fort Worth's Frontier Centennial. He enlisted Broadway producer Billy Rose to create a lively event featuring agricultural exhibits, a Wild West show, and performances by vaudeville stars, including stripper Sally Rand.
