The proceedings of the 2nd International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing and Applications (ISPA2004) held in Hong Kong from December 13-15, 2004, highlight the significance of parallel and distributed processing in advancing computer networks and hardware technology. This technology is crucial for solving computationally intensive problems and for developing highly reliable, distributed applications. The symposium served as a platform for scientists and engineers from academia and industry to share experiences, innovative ideas, research findings, and applications related to parallel and distributed computing. A total of 361 papers were submitted from 26 countries and regions, spanning Asia, the Pacific, Europe, and North America. Each submission underwent rigorous review by at least three committee members or external reviewers, making the selection process highly competitive. Ultimately, 78 regular papers and 38 short papers were accepted for oral presentations, reflecting the high quality and diversity of submissions. The selected papers not only present novel ideas and state-of-the-art techniques but also aim to inspire future research in parallel and distributed computing applications.
