The Oldest Linguistic Attestations and Texts in the Slavic Languages

This volume features 16 contributions from scholars at various European research centers focused on the oldest Slavic language attestations and texts. It was inspired by the Documentation and Interpretation of the Earliest Croatian project (2014–2018). Most papers were presented at the conference “Oldest Linguistic Attestations and Texts in the Slavic Languages” in Zagreb on November 4-5, 2016, aimed at fostering dialogue among researchers examining early linguistic materials of Slavic languages. The collaboration is crucial as it becomes increasingly challenging to track individual researchers' progress in studying the earliest Slavic literacy within national frameworks and Slavic studies centers across Europe and beyond. The selected works advance the interpretation of ancient Slavic texts, address similar methodological issues, and showcase various modern approaches to this material. Amir Kapetanovic, Ph.D. in Humanities (2004, University of Zagreb), serves as a senior research scientist (full professor) at the Institute of Croatian Language and Linguistics in Zagreb. He has published two critical editions and approximately 70 scholarly studies, including "Jezik u starim versima hrvatskim" (2016), and has received several Croatian awards in philology.
