Describes the life and works of the Russian writer, Fyodor Dostoevsky. His first novel appeared in 1846 and throughout the late 1840's he continued to write about the poverty and harsh life around him. Involvement in political activities led to his arrest in 1849 and almost resulted in his execution. His later works, particularly The Brothers Karamazov, rank amongst the masterpieces of world literature.
