For many years aviation historians and modelers have struggled to identify the exact variant, weapons and equipment used by one of the most famous fighter aircraft of all time -- the Messerschmitt Bf 109. In all, there were around 32,000 such aircraft produced and together with the Fw 190, the Bf 109 formed the backbone of the Luftwaffe fighter force during World War II, fighting on all fronts. During the process of continuous improvement to performance and combat requirements, the aircraft underwent continuous modification to such an extent that identifying a particular variant or sub-type has often meant hours of research. By using operational photographs and aircraft handbook drawings, this book sets out to describe and portray the differences of all known production variants. The Bf 109 A, B, C, D, E, T, F, G and K area ll illustrated here. The aim of this book is to give an insight into the mass-produced and 'little-known' variants of the Bf 109. The research is based exculsively on original German Air Ministry and manufacturer's records and documentation, contrasted with wartime photographs as well as archaeological studies of various Bf 109 wrecks dug up and recovered in Europe in recent years.
