Translated from the Malayalam masterpiece, Oru Desathinte Katha, Tales of Athiranippadam showcases the sorrows, love, laughter and sighs of the people who live in a little corner of the earth, Athiranippadam, which is in the southern state of Kerala, India. Follow the protagonist, Sreedharan, as he revisits the little town he was raised in, reminiscing about his beloved Ammu Kutty and the inhabitants of this land and his childhood - Koran Butler, Kulus Parangodan and Njandu Govindan. He is both a witness and a participant in some of the momentous events that at times change, and at times, twist, the fortunes of Athiranippadam. Tales of Athiranippadam is a semi-fictionalized autobiography of S.K. Pottekkat (1913 - 1982), an illustrious novelist, short story writer, dramatist, travelogue writer and teacher. In its original version in Malayalam, Oru Desathinte Katha won the author the Sahitya Akademi award in 1972 and the Jnanpith award in 1980.
