Mehr zum Buch

The photo album presents the most complete collection of photographs of wooden churches in Transcarpathia, made by the Czech researcher Florian Zapletal in 1919–1925, when the region was part of Czechoslovakia. Zapletal understood the architectural and historical value of these ancient monuments, was the first to systematically capture them in photographs, as well as make efforts to preserve them. Some churches have already been lost and have come down to us only in his photographs. Photos for the album were provided by Zapletal's student, the heir of his archive, academician, professor Mykola Mushynka (Presov, Slovakia). He is also the author of an introductory article on the life and work of a Czech researcher. The compiler of the publication is a well-known researcher of wooden sacred architecture of Transcarpathia, art critic Mykhailo Syrokhman (Uzhhorod). The book contains texts in Ukrainian and Czech, as well as a summary in English. Captions to photos and alphabetical index of settlements are in all three languages. 120 pages, black and white.
