Michel Foucault's works significantly influenced the emergence of 'new historicism' and 'cultural materialism' in literary studies. His writings explore the interplay between history, power, and culture, reshaping critical perspectives in the field. Foucault's ideas challenge traditional narratives and encourage a deeper understanding of how historical contexts shape literature and thought. His contributions remain pivotal in contemporary discussions surrounding the relationships between texts and their socio-political environments.
