Pipilotti Rist (*1962) ist eine der wegweisenden Figuren der Videokunst und hat sich mit ihren sinnlich-unverfrorenen Videoinstallationen international einen Namen gemacht. Unterhaltsam, ironisch und selbstbewusst befasst sich die Künstlerin mit Konventionen und Tabus. Nun zeigt das Kunsthaus Zürich eine umfassende Werkschau, die sowohl Schlüsselwerke aus den Anfängen von Rists internationaler Karriere umfasst wie auch neue, speziell für die Ausstellung entstandene Werke. Die begleitende Publikation ist mehr als ein klassischer Ausstellungskatalog. Das Buch ist als Glossar aufgebaut und beleuchtet auf ungewöhnliche Weise anhand kurzer, alphabetisch geordneter Beiträge die wichtigsten Themen von Pipilotti Rists Schaffen. Als Autoren konnten namhafte SchrifstellerInnen wie Arno Camenisch, Martin Suter oder Sibylle Berg gewonnen werden. Gleichzeitig kommen auch Künstlerfreunde und KunstwissenschaftlerInnen wie Änne Söll und Jacqueline Burckhardt sowie Kapazitäten anderer Zünfte, nicht zuletzt aber auch Kinder zu Wort. Zudem werden erstmals Dokumente sowie Bildmaterial aus dem persönlichen Archiv der Künstlerin publiziert und Pipilotti Rist steuert ein Gedicht bei! The exhibition that Pipilotti Rist presented in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, her first show in Spain, consists of five video installations: a selection of which are considered the best works by the artist since 1994 until today. Monitors with images, music, objects that form the scenes, projectors are the basic elements of these five installations in which you can perceive the essence and the most recent evolution of the artist's work.

Pipilotti Rist (*1962 in Grabs, Schweiz) ist eine Pionierin der zeitgenössischen Videokunst. Die Ausstellung Du wirst sorglos sein in der Kestner Gesellschaft führt zwei neue Videoinstallationen von Rist zusammen, die erstmalig in Deutschland zu sehen sind. Dabei entstehen traumartige Orte der Entspannung und Imagination. Statt Technik und Organisches, Virtuelles und Körperliches unversöhnlich gegenüber zu stellen, ist hier das eine im anderen aufgehoben. Die Mappe erscheint zur Ausstellung und enthält ein Booklet in deutscher und englischer Sprache mit Texten von Heinrich Dietz und Christina Végh sowie zehn Postkarten von Pipilotti Rist.

Pipilotti Rist is among the world's best-known artists working with video. Her multi-screen installations have a dream-like quality as, for example, a beautiful young woman (the artist herself) cavorts in fantastic seascapes or surreal jungles. This monograph explores the artist and her work. It features: a discussion of Rist's work in relation to notions of Utopia; an examination of Rist's innovation in video technology in the creation of a new female image; an exploration of the psychoanalytical implications of one video work, Absolutions (Pipilotti's Mistakes) (1988); Artist's Choice, for which the artist has selected two selections from the poet Anne Sexton and novelist Richard Brautigan; and Artist's Writings - Rist's descriptions of her dreams, highly influential in the realization of her imagery, are set alongside a homage to video pioneer Nam June Paik.
