Erieta Attali (1966, Tel Aviv) is one of today’s most successful and sought-after architectural and landscape photographers. In this book she is addressing the role of architecture photography at architecture faculties. Architecture is predominantly communicated via two-dimensional image, despite being a discipline concerned with three-dimensional built space. For the greater part of the last century, architecture’s collective visual vocabulary is assembled through photography. Architectural photography, however, is often still absent from design schools’ curricula. Can architecture students’ early involvement with architectural photography shape them as young designers? This book assembles a multifaceted reply to this question, framed by both educators and former students’ essays. The texts by world-renowned architects and thinkers are supported by a collection of students’ photographs and works by Erieta Attali. The photographs in this book have been taken under the training of Erieta Attali by students of GSAPP, Columbia University, Kuma Lab– Tokyo University, Catolica University in Santiago de Chile, RMIT University in Melbourne, Technion, Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa and TUM, Technical University in Munich.

Erieta Attali (*1966, Tel Aviv) has spent two decades examining the interplay between architecture and landscape at the world's edges. Her photography investigates how extreme conditions and challenging terrains compel humanity to reorient itself architecturally. This rigorous exploration has taken her across four continents, from Iceland to the Indian Ocean. In her work, Attali draws on ancient Greek cartology, where map edges signify the limits of the known world. Her poetic, metaphorical photographs present architecture as a natural feature, inseparable from its surroundings, creating visual maps of temporal and spatial transformations at the fringes of human existence. The photographic journey is enriched by contributions from various fields, including archaeology, architecture, and art history, reflecting the concept of geographical periphery. Based in New York and Paris, Attali holds a Ph.D. from the School of Architecture & Design, RMIT University in Melbourne. Her architectural work spans Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australia. She is the co-author of "Glass Wood | Erieta Attali on Kengo Kuma," author of "Periphery: An Archaeology of Light," and co-author of "Marc Mimram: Structure | Light Landscapes of Gravity Through the Lens of Erieta Attali."
