Die Praxis klinischer Elektrokardiographie unterscheidet sich oft stark von der erlernten Theorie. Filter verändern das Bild der Aufzeichnung genauso wie Artefakte, welche z. B. durch Tremor des Patienten, elektrische Störungen oder falsch angelegte Elektroden entstehen können. Oft lässt sich ein EKG daher vom weniger erfahrenen Arzt nur falsch oder gar nicht deuten. Das vorliegende Werk, dessen Zustandekommen vor allem der unermüdliche Einsatz von Dr. med. Daniel Liebmann ermöglicht hat, verwendet ausschließlich EKGs aus dem klinischen Alltag, welche von Univ.-Prof. Dr. Robert Gasser über 30 Jahre gesammelt wurden. Weiters knüpft das Buch direkt an das von Univ.-Prof. Dr. Robert Gasser bereits 1987 im Biomeßtechnik-Verlag (BMV) veröffentlichte „Compendium of Clinical Electrocardiography“ an, welches über viele Jahre weltweit Begleiter junger Ärzte und Studenten war. Auch dieses Kompendium hatte das Ziel, die Elektrokardiographie in ihren Grundzügen zu erklären und für die Praxis erlernbar zu machen.
