Klasický román Brama Stokera dráždí k nejrůznějším adaptacím už přes sto dvacet let. Vábení neodolal ani vynikající francouzský kreslíř Georges Bess, kterého český čtenář zná z komiksu Bílý láma, k němuž psal scénář Alejandro Jodorowsky. S tímto scenáristou Bess spolupracoval i na jiných dílech a k dalším si psal scénář sám. Dracula je přesně tím důvodem, proč se zdálo, že se na několik let odmlčel – a stačí se podívat na úžasně secesně členitou, ornamentální kresbu jeho adaptace, aby člověk pochopil, proč se tak stalo. Bessův Dracula, věrný v tématu a atmosféře doby, umně zeštíhlený k lepší plynulosti děje a k lepšímu využití vizuálních možností příběhu, ale hlavně opatřený kresbou, která bere dech, patří rozhodně k těm nejlepším výtvarným a komiksovým zachycením slavného upírského příběhu, jaká se vám kdy dostanou do ruky. Fenomenální francouzský výtvarník Georges Bess završil svou volnou trilogii rozmáchlých komiksových adaptací klasických literárních děl. Po Draculovi a Frankensteinovi sáhl lehce mimo nejstarší zdroje fantastických literárních žánrů a zvolil slavný román Victora Huga Chrám Matky Boží v Paříži. I když však nejde o fantastiku, tento román nabízí stejně spektakulární obrazové možnosti, ať už jde o gotickou architekturu, bizarní postavy nebo kolorit středověké Paříže – a Bess toho využil naplno a úchvatně. Nesmrtelný příběh Quasimoda a Esmeraldy v jeho podání našel zobrazení a výklad, jaký při vší úctě přesahuje možnosti kinematografie, protože využívá způsobů vyjádření, jakými vládne právě jen komiksové médium.
