Frederick Forsyth, geboren 1938 in Ashford/ Kent, studierte in Granada, Spanien. Mit 19 Jahren jüngster Pilot der Royal Air Force, danach tätig als Reporter für die Eastern Daily Presse in Norfolk und Korrespondent der Agentur Reuters. Berichte zunächst aus Paris, später aus Ostdeutschland und der Tschechoslowakei. 1965 ging er als Reporter zur BBC. Seine Erfahrungen aus dem Journalismus verarbeitete er in Romanen.
