Willy Wolff hat mit über 80 seinen Wohnsitz und seinen Arbeitsplatz in zwei verschiedenen Ländern: Als Rabbiner arbeitet er in Norddeutschland und schreibt für die Londoner „Times“. Er ist britischer Staatsbürger mit deutschen Wurzeln und trägt seine Predigten auf Russisch vor. Außerdem liebt er Yoga, Weihnachtslieder und Pferdewetten. Mehr als drei Jahre begleitete die Regisseurin Britta Wauer den Landesrabbiner von Mecklenburg-Vorpommern mit der Kamera. In zahlreichen Gesprächen blickt Willy Wolff auf sein bewegtes Leben, erzählt von seiner Kindheit in Berlin und Amsterdam, von seiner Karriere als politischer Journalist in England und von seinem lebenslangen Wunsch, Rabbiner zu werden. The Pima Museum’s archives, filled with B-29 technical and crew manuals also gave the author extensive information that had not been previously published. These sources, the author’s extensive personal library, and microfilm resources enabled the author to produce this comprehensive look at the bomber and its crew in the context of the bomber’s development and operational use. It is truly monumental in scope, both in words and photos.

The author made extensive use of the massive document and photo collections of the Marauder Archives at Akron and Tucson, and the Air Force collection at the NMUSAF. Martin Company design and production information and flight and test evaluations, along with original Company Flight, Parts, and Maintenance Manuals, and rare archival microfilm of original material were also used. The author was given unprecedented access to the family records of B-26 designer Peyton Magruder. Now, the award-winning filmmaker Britta Wauer has not only dedicated a special film to Rabbi Wolff, one of the most unusual Rabbi in the world, but has also put together this book with the memories and insights of this charming person - fascinating, entertaining and inspiring. Born 1927 to a Jewish family in Berlin, he lived in England from the age of 12. Willy Wolff worked as a journalist before he became a Rabbi after he turned 50. As a political correspondent of a number of English daily papers he covered world politics closely for three decades. He travelled to China and the Soviet Union with the British Foreign Secretary and met European heads of government. He gave up this life in order to satisfy his wish to become a Rabbi. From 2003, Willy Wolff, in his capacity as Sate Rabbi of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, looked after the Jewish communities in Schwerin, Rostock and Wismar whose membership consists almost exclusively of immigrants from the former Soviet Union. His own home, however, is near London.
