This book explores the relations of Eliot and Joyce with certain antecedents (e.g. Dante, Flaubert, Baudelaire, Dostoevsky) and certain contemporaries (e.g. Pound, Yeats), and with their readers, in order to illuminate the authors' place in English literature.
