Maxx is a homeless man living in a cardboard box who sees himself as a classic superhero. He is aided by Julie Winters, a freelance social worker. Maxx occasionally slips into another world known as "The Outback." There, he is a true hero, rescuing Julie from strange monsters and his arch-nemesis, Mr. Gone. However, Mr. Gone is the only one who remembers his journeys between the real world and The Outback, holding the key to both Julie's and Maxx's secrets. This is the first of six volumes in the surreal comic series MAXX.
