Nach Harry Limes Verschwinden gerät er unter Verdacht, am Schmuggel von verdünntem Penicillin beteiligt gewesen zu sein. Rollo Martins, ihm freundschaftlich verbunden, möchte Harrys Unschuld nachweisen, muß jedoch eine gegenteilige Entdeckung machen. Mit Orson Welles und Joseph Cotton in den Hauptrollen wurde 'Der dritte Mann' auch als Film ein Welterfolg.
