Das Buch lädt zu einer Betrachtung und Besichtigung römischer Brücken in der Extremadura, im Westen Spaniens, ein. Ausgehend der Städte Cáceres, Badajoz, Mérida und Plasencia werden Routen zu den einzelnen Brücken beschrieben und die Brücken in ihrem kulturellen Kontext betrachtet. Zum Verständnis der Baukunst wird einleitend die Konstruktion römischer Brücken erklärt.
