A young Black girl goes missing in the woods outside a predominantly white Rust Belt town, and she may not be the last. Liz Rocher returns to Johnstown, Pennsylvania, for her best friend's wedding, despite her reluctance and past memories of the town. As she navigates awkward reunions, the day takes a dark turn when the bride's daughter, Caroline, vanishes, leaving behind a bloodstained piece of fabric. While the police launch a frantic search, Liz recognizes a disturbing pattern: a summer night, a missing girl, and a party in the woods. Years ago, Keisha Woodson, the only other Black girl in school, disappeared under similar circumstances, found later with her heart missing. The chilling thought that she could have been next haunts Liz, and with Caroline now gone, she suspects a sinister connection. As Liz investigates the town's history, she uncovers a horrifying secret: Black girls have been disappearing in these woods for years. With the malevolent force in the forest closing in, Liz realizes she must act quickly to find Caroline or risk being consumed by the darkness herself.
