Melissa Wood fühlte sich schon in jungen Jahren zur Kunst hingezogen und war fasziniert von Illustrationen, mit dem Wunsch, eigene Bücher zu gestalten. Ihr vielfältiger Bildungsweg in englischer Literatur, Kunstgeschichte und Innenarchitektur prägte ihre einzigartige Perspektive. Bevor sie Buchillustratorin wurde, sammelte sie Erfahrungen in verschiedenen Berufen, von einer Kellnerin bis zur Leiterin eines Catering-Unternehmens. Schließlich widmete sie sich dem Design und der Illustration, wobei ihre Kunstwerke auf Produkten erschienen, die in namhaften Geschäften verkauft wurden.
