Der byzantinische Gelehrte und Königsberater Psellos, besser gesagt: Μιχαήλ Ψελλός, lebte etwa 1018 bis 1078 in Konstantinopel, heute Istanbul. Neben etlichen klugen „Essays“, über welches heutige Wort er sich gewiß wundern würde, hat er hiesige „Lobrede auf den Wein“ geschrieben. Professor Klaus Nickau, Göttingen, hat den kleinen Text – auf Anregung von Antje Boijens – für unsere 16er-Reihe übertragen. Wir übernehmen die Fußnoten, welche die Verlagskollegen der italienischen Ausgabe gesetzt haben, auf welche uns die Kollegin Monika Lustig von der Edition Converso aufmerksam gemacht hat, als Hinterfütterung unserer Lektüre. – Allen vieren gilt herzlichster Dank.
