Exploring the enigmatic concept of dark energy, this book delves into its role as the primary force behind the universe's accelerating expansion. Comprising 69.4% of the cosmos, dark energy is characterized as a gravitationally repulsive force, contrasting with ordinary and dark matter. The text examines its implications for the universe over the last 11 billion years, highlighting the ongoing mystery surrounding its true nature and the challenges physicists face in understanding this dominant yet elusive component of the universe.

New Look to the World of Dark Energy and Materials
    • The book explores the vital process of desalination, which removes salts and minerals from saline water, highlighting its significance in addressing global water scarcity. It examines the energy-intensive nature of desalination, comparing it to alternatives like water recycling and conservation, which may not always be feasible. With current reliance on desalinated water at 1% of the global population and projections of 14% facing water scarcity by 2025, the text emphasizes the growing importance of desalination, especially in arid regions like Australia.

Green hydrogen is produced using renewable or low-carbon energy sources, resulting in much lower carbon emissions compared to grey hydrogen from fossil fuels. It plays a crucial role in decarbonizing challenging sectors like cement and iron production, producing green ammonia for synthetic fertilizers, and serving as a solution for long-duration grid and seasonal energy storage. This innovative approach positions green hydrogen as a key player in the transition to sustainable energy systems.

Role of Hydrogen in Human Life
    • The importance of the nuclear power industry to the nation’s energy security is becoming increasingly clear. Nuclear energy is the only large-scale, carbon-free electricity source that the country can widely expand to produce large amounts of electricity. Noting that, nuclear power plants prevent the release of significant quantities of emissions that would be created by burning fossil fuels to generate the same amount of electricity. The current fleet of U.S. nuclear power plants eliminates the release of about 1 million short tons of nitrogen oxides and 2.7 million short tons of sulfur dioxide – pollutants controlled under the Clean Air Act – each year. They also prevent the emission of nearly 700 million metric tons of carbon dioxide each year; an amount nearly equal to that released from all U.S. passenger cars. The amount of nitrogen oxide emissions nuclear plants prevent annually is the equivalent of taking more than 47 million passenger cars off the road.
