They are written in easy keys such as D major, G major, E minor, and B minor, requiring no metal keys on the Irish flute. The pieces utilize only eight notes: D, E, F#, G, A, B, C, and C#. These arrangements are also suitable for soprano and tenor recorders, modern flutes, and piccolos. The author, Grey Larsen, is a master musician with extensive experience in performing and teaching internationally. He has been playing tin whistle and Irish flute since the 1970s and has authored nine books, including popular titles on these instruments. For this collection, a tin whistle in D or a standard Irish flute is recommended, though soprano and tenor recorders, modern flutes, and piccolos can also be used, with tablature specific to tin whistle and Irish flute fingerings.
