Matilda is an extraordinary little girl with remarkable abilities. At just five-and-a-half, she excels in double-digit multiplication and devours Dickens with ease. Despite being a super-nerd and the teacher's pet, her classmates adore her. However, her home life is far from ideal, as she is stuck with two self-absorbed parents. At school, she faces the tyrannical principal, Mrs. Trunchbull, a former hammer-throwing champion who terrorizes students with her brute force and lack of empathy. Yet, Matilda possesses incredible inner strength: astonishing intelligence, saintly patience, and a knack for clever revenge. She begins with practical jokes aimed at her clueless parents, but her true challenge arises when she stands up for her beloved teacher, Miss Honey, against the malevolent Trunchbull. While the outcome is never in doubt, the story unfolds in unexpected ways. Roald Dahl masterfully blends imaginative storytelling with emotional depth, making readers genuinely care for Matilda, who, despite her gifts, experiences real feelings.
With Noah the boa using his coils to work the doughnut machine and with the three giraffes tangled upon the spiral stair, Mortimer's first night in a zoo was one to be remembered for a long, long time.
I have always liked to draw people flying, in all sorts of ways. These people just have simply little angel-type wings, which seem to work perfectly well. These are moments of everyday life transferred to the air - the boys seem to be the only ones to beexploiting the possibilities. In recent years I have found myself working increasingly in sequences of drawings which explore subjects and techniques which interest me. These sequences are the origins of the QB Papers; they vary in approach and tone, and between reality and fantasy. But I hope that in each of them in its own way will appeal to anyone who likes looking at drawings.' - Quentin Blake

This highly illustrated new book features the work of thirteen of the top children's book illustrators working in the UK today. Each chapter contains a commentary by the illustrator, introducing their work and explaining how they started to illustrate children's books, and shows several original artworks by each illustrator. Quentin Blake's introduction reflects on the complexities of providing an illustrative response to the characters and activities of a writer. Joanna Carey, formerly Children's Book Editor of The Guardian , contributes an illustrated essay on the history of children's book illustration, from the work of Cruikshank, Ardizonne, and Walter Crane, to the instantly recognisable pictures from Winnie the Pooh and the tales of Beatrix Potter. The illustrators featured Angela Barrett, Quentin Blake, Lauren Child, Patrick Benson, Raymond Briggs, Sara Fanelli, Stephen Biesty, John Burningham, Michael Foreman, Tony Ross, Posy Simmonds, Emma Chichester Clark, and Charlotte Voake.
A joyous celebration of the art of ageing from the masterly pen of a favorite illustrator that will appeal to adult and child alike Quentin Blake's drawings have been entertaining children and their parents for decades, but this is the first time he has illustrated a book specifically for his own generation. Characteristically, it is humane and extremely funny at the same time, and for any reader who is 60 or over—or even thinking about it—this book is required reading.

'These originated in a set of drawings of objects for display in a shop in Aldeburgh, called “Objects.” These are thirteen of the more eccentric ones.In recent years I have found myself working increasingly in sequences of drawings which explore subjects and techniques which interest me.These sequences are the origins of the QB Papers; they vary in approach and tone, and between reality and fantasy. But I hope that in each of them in its own way will appeal to anyone who likes looking at drawings.’ – Quentin Blake
The title was suggested by the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. I have many, often quite serious, pictures of people drawing animals or (more often) birds. Here they are just simply adapted to provide a handful of visual jokes. I hope they’re amusing.
