Im Zentrum der Forschungen des deutschen Sprachforschers August Friedrich Pott (1802 - 1887) "standen Probleme der Indogermanistik. Pott wandte die grimmsche Methode der etymologischen Lautvergleichung auf indogermanische Fragen an und entwickelte Methoden zur vergleichenden Analyse der Stammbildung." Pott widmet sich in dem hier vorliegenden Werk einem Teilaspekt der Sprache, "nämlich der bald unverkürzten, bald nur angedeuteten Doppelung, welche ... in schnell fasslichem Überblicke dem Kerne ihres Wesens und sprachlichen Wertes nach vor jedermanns Augen offen daliegt ..."
