Eine Weihnachtskrippe ist eine Darstellung der Geburt Christi aus der Weihnachtsgeschichte oder anderer Szenen aus dem Leben Jesu Christi, meist durch Figuren in einer Modelllandschaft Betlehems. Die Weihnachtskrippen verbinden die Bilderwelt der Adventszeit mit dem Dreikönigsfest. Die heutigen Weihnachtskrippen gehen bereits auf das Frühchristentum zurück, doch zeigten die Darstellungen der ersten Jahrhunderte nur das Jesuskind (nach dem Lukasevangelium in der Futterkrippe liegend) mit den zwei Tieren Ochs und Esel. Die Figur der Maria kam erst im Mittelalter dazu (lt. einer Mitteilung des Wiener Diözesanmuseums), der Hl. Josef sogar noch später. (Wiki) Der kgl.
