"Soleil Hopi" is the autobiography of a Pueblo Indian who testifies with naivety, liveliness, and wisdom to his thoughtful attachment to traditional Hopi frameworks. Talayesva, chief of the Sun clan, was born east of the Grand Canyon in March 1890. Hostile by experience to the Americanization of his people and tribe, he does not refuse, however, an evolution that is unfortunately inevitable. A document whose precision, strength, and quality of inspiration make it an avant-garde literary work.
