Kurz vor Wintereinbruch wird die Stute Melody auf die Heartland-Farm gebracht, um dort ihr Fohlen zur Welt zu bringen. Während des Transports verletzt sich das Pferd, ist von Stund an misstrauisch und lässt nur schwer jemanden an sich heran. Amy muss alle Kraft aufbieten. Sorgen machen Amy auch ihre Schwester Lou, die ihren Vater wieder gefunden hat. Amy und ihr Großvater sind dagegen, dass der Mann auf die Farm kommt.
