"Supporting SMEs and helping them to enhance their competitiveness is one of the key elements of a successful regional development policy and remains a priority also for the next funding period. Regional competitiveness and the success of smart specialisation strategies depend heavily on the 23 million SMEs all over Europe and their ability to create wealth and high quality jobs. This guidebook is intended to serve as a 'cookbook' on how to design, apply for and implement concrete projects in support of SMEs from the EU Structural Funds. It bases itself very much on previous initiatives in their area and is intended to be as hands-on as possible for all those designing a concrete project. It also provides concrete examples of good practice.
