Written after the appearance of a spurious biography in 1833, this was written with assistance from Thomas Chilton and claims to be an attempt to correct the earlier book's errors. Though often exaggerated and often even misleading, it is generally accurate and an early masterpiece of American humor. It is the only genuine autobiography of several attributed to Crockett.
