Wei-Ngan Chin Bücher

On behalf of the organizing committee, I welcome you to the second Asian Symposium on Programming Languages and Systems (APLAS 2004) in Taipei from November 4–6, 2004. Since 2000, researchers in programming languages and systems have gathered annually in Asia to share their latest findings, contributing to the field's advancement. Previous meetings took place in Singapore (2000), Daejeon (2001), Shanghai (2002), and Beijing (2003), fostering valuable exchanges of ideas and experiences. APLAS 2004 marks the fifth meeting and the second in a symposium format, following last year's successful event in Beijing. The success of APLAS is a collective effort, and I extend my gratitude to the Program Committee members, especially Program Chair Wei-Ngan Chin, for crafting an outstanding program. Special thanks to invited speakers Joxan Jaffar, Frank Pfenning, and Martin Odersky for traveling to share their insights. I also appreciate the referees who reviewed manuscripts, the authors who contributed to the proceedings, the Organizing Committee for their hard work, and all participants.
