Im Zentrum des Buches steht die Kupfertafel 'Leda mit dem Schwan' von Joseph Heintz d. Ä. (1564–1609), der von 1589 bis zu seinem Tod abwechselnd in Prag und Augsburg tätig war. Spektakulär ist das Bild insbesondere wegen seiner Provenienz: Es handelt sich um ein von Joachim von Sandrart hoch gelobtes Bild in der Kunstsammlung Kaiser Rudolf II. in Prag, für den Heintz ab 1591 als Hofmaler tätig war. Von dort wurde die Leda 1623 in Frankfurt an den Antwerpener Kunsthändler und Goldschmied Daniel de Briers verkauft und war seitdem verschollen. Einzig zwei Vorzeichnungen in der Wiener Albertina und eine weitere Zeichnung in der Graphischen Sammlung der Tschechischen Nationalgalerie in Prag kündeten noch von der Existenz der Tafel, bis sie vor Kurzem von einem Augsburger Kunstsammler erworben werden konnte. Die wiederentdeckte Leda wird nun in Katalog und Ausstellung den Entwurfszeichnungen aus Wien und Prag sowie Gemälden, Zeichnungen und Graphiken aus den Beständen der Kunstsammlungen und Museen Augsburg gegenübergestellt.

The monograph devoted to one of the most accomplished artists of the 17th century, the graphic artist and draughtsman Wenceslaus Hollar, focuses exclusively on his drawing oeuvre. The book contains Hollar?s biography with new information on his life, a chapter on the collecting of his drawings over the centuries to the present, and an analysis of Hollar?s art of drawing. This section of the book is followed by a catalogue raisonné of his drawings that are housed in many public and private collections around the world. Some 500 drawings are known by Hollar; a number of them have been discovered only recently

Monografie věnovaná jednomu z nejvýznamnějších umělců 17. století, grafikovi a kreslíři Václavu Hollarovi, se zaměřuje speciálně na jeho kreslířské dílo. Obsahuje umělcovu biografii s novými poznatky o jeho životě, stať o sběratelství jeho kreseb v průběhu staletí až do současnosti a rozbor Hollarova umění kresby. Dále následuje kompletní kritický katalog jeho kreseb, které se nacházejí v mnoha světových veřejných i soukromých sbírkách. Je známo kolem 500 kreseb, jejichž autorem je Hollar; řada z nich je nově objevena.
