Enzym, který třímá klíč k lidskému stárnutí a brzy nás dovede k delšímu a zdravějšímu životu. Vědci se shodují na nové teorii, podle níž je lidské stárnutí následkem buněčného stárnutí. Pokaždé, když se buňka dělí, se její telomery (konce chromozomů) zkracují. S každým zkrácením telomer klesá schopnost buňky obnovovat své molekuly, v důsledku čehož stárne. Lidské stárnutí je tedy výsledkem stárnutí bilionů tělesných buněk. Některé buňky však nestárnou. Pohlavní a kmenové buňky se množí neomezeně dlouho a nestárnou, protože produkují telomerázy, které obnovují, tedy znovu prodlužují telomery, jež tyto buňky udržují mladé.
