Dies ist die erste übergreifende Gesamtdarstellung deutscher Waffen, die in den Kriegsjahren 1939-1945 beim Heer und bei den Bodentruppen bzw. Landeinheiten von Luftwaffe und Kriegsmarine im Einsatz waren. Die Verfasser stützten sich vor allem auf Originalquellen und authentisches Material. Versehen mit rund 1100 Abbildungen untergliedert sich das Werk in Kapitel nach Waffenfamilien, wobei jedes einzelne Modell mit technischen Daten und einer kurzen Kommentierung vorgestellt wird. Einführende Texte stellen die Entwicklung und Entstehung der Waffenfamilie jeweils in einer Übersicht dar.
