Autorka tím má na mysli především Čapkovo přehodnocení tradiční narativní struktury cestopisu jako komunikace mezi vypravěčem-cestovatelem a čtenářem, dále pak akcentaci vizuálního znaku v žánru cestopisu. Analýza směřuje rovněž k významu tématu cesty v Čapkově fikci a k intertextuálním vztahům mezi Čapkovými cestopisy a fikcí. Monografie poukazuje na to, jak se stalo téma cestování v literatuře a umění experimentem zaměřeným na zkoumání žánrových a uměleckých hranic cestopisné literatury. Čapek nebyl avantgardním spisovatelem, ale do svých cestopisů podle Mirny Šolić začlenil prvky meziválečné avantgardní poetiky: Hrál si s flexibilitou cestopisného žánru a svými narativními postupy překračoval tradiční konvence literárních žánrů a umění.
