Obžerství, lakota, lenost, smilstvo, pýcha, závist a hněv. Sedm smrtelných hříchů, které se v roce 1995 rozhodl ve filmu Sedm potrestat člověk známý jako John Doe. (Jméno John Doe se v anglicky mluvících zemích používá jako označení pro neznámého). Film byl prvním velkým úspěchem režiséra Davida Finchera a dodnes je citován a napodobován. Jedenáct let po premiéře filmu vznikl neobvyklý projekt inspirovaný filmem Sedm. Sedm tvůrčích týmů vytvořilo sedm příběhů na motivy jednotlivých hříchů. Projekt SE7DM koordinovali výtvarník David Seidman a scenárista Mike Kalvoda, kteří do každého příběhu vytvořili několik stránek z deníků Johna Doea. Tím vznikla mozaika příběhů dokreslujících svět filmu Sedm, která dokáže čtenáře skutečně dostat do hlavy sériového vraha Johna Doea. Může tak sledovat jeho život, vzpomínky a činy. Kniha SE7DM není comicsovým zpracováním známého filmu, ale rozvedením jeho motivů. V sedmi částech nazvaných podle jednotlivých hříchů se střídají různé výtvarné styly, vybrané vždy s ohledem na charakter konkrétního příběhu. Předmluvu ke knize napsal Ahmet Zappa, syn Franka Zappy.
