While politics will now largely take place in Berlin, Bonn will benefit from legally anchored billions that will make the loss of power more bearable and give the city a new image as a center of science and new technologies. However, one thing will not change: Bonn, with its 300,000 residents, boasts numerous witnesses to its 2,000-year history, its vibrant city life, parks and forests, large museums, and small idylls in half-timbered villages and Gründerzeit districts that have survived the wars unscathed.
