Martin Beheim-Schwarzbach, geb. 1900 in London, gest. 1985 in Hamburg. Kaufmännische Lehre in Hamburg. Erste Veröffentlichungen ab 1924: Gedichte, Novellen, Erzählungen, Romane, ein Buch über Meisterpartien im Schach aus vier Jahrhunderten (1934) sowie Übersetzungen aus dem Englischen, vor allem des Romans „Vom Winde verweht“ von Margaret Mitchell (1937). 1939 Emigration nach London. Arbeitete als Journalist, Mitarbeiter bei der BBC und schließlich als Redakteur. War im „London Chess Club“ aktiv. Rückkehr nach Hamburg 1946 als britischer Offizier, wo er im Auftrag der Militärregierung für die Zeitung „Die Welt“ zuständig war. Seit 1950 freier Schriftsteller in Hamburg. 1951 gehörte er zu den sechzehn Schriftstellern, die sich in Darmstadt mit der Gründung des bundesdeutschen P. E. N.-Zentrums vom Deutschen P. E. N.-Zentrum abspalteten.
