Na kraji osady býva ihuoma, stelesnenie krásy a dobroty, ale aj - nešťastia. Prvý muž jej umiera na zranenie, potom umiera druhý a po čase i tretí z mužov, ktorí chceli získať Ihuomu pre seba. Vtedy čarodej z osady vyveští, že Ihuoma nemôže priniesť šťastie nikomu... Baladický príbeh, ktorý strhne čitateľa svojou jednoduchosťou, úprimnosťou a exotikou.
Veľké rybníky sa rozprestierajú vo Východnej Nigérii a poskytujú útulok i obživu obyvateľom viacerých dedín. Jeden z nich, mimoriadne bohatý na ryby, stane sa však predmetom sporu: dve susedné dediny sa nevedia dohodnúť, komu prináleží dedičné právo na lov v tomto rybníku.
