Dvojsvazkové vydání představuje dosud nejobšírnější a nejucelenější poučení o dějinách anglické literatury v českém jazyce. Autory díla jsou čtyři američtí univerzitní profesoři. V tomto druhém díle třetí knihu, probírající literaturu období restaurace a osmnáctého století, napsal profesor Michiganské university Louis Brevodl, jinak autor monografie o Drydenovi a mimoto četných studií. Poslední, čtvrtá kniha, je dílem profesora Minnesotské university, amerického esejisty a kritika, autora monografie Pojetí přírody v anglickém básnictví XIX. století Josepha Warrena Beache. Kniha podává na poměrně nevelké ploše velké bohatství materiálu, který je přehledně a odborně utříděn, takže dílo je spolehlivým pramenem informace. Autoři jsou uznávanými odborníky v obdobích, která jim připadla za úkol, a jejich dějiny jsou napsány v duchu demokratického humanismu. Kniha je opatřena bibliografií anglické literatury i komentářem vědeckého redaktora a je k ní připojena zvlášť užitečná a často postrádaná bibliografie českých překladů z anglické literatury.
