1815 druckte der Historiker Johannes C. von Fichard, genannt Baur von Eyseneck, (1773-1829) ein Liederbuch, das sich in seinem Besitz befand, weitgehend ab. Bereits 1812 hatte er einen Nachtrag zu diesem Liederbuch - drei Lieder zur Schlacht von Seckenheim 1462 - in seinem Frankfurtischen Archiv fur altere deutsche Literatur und Geschichte publiziert. Das Liederbuch verbrannte 1944 im Frankfurter Stadtarchiv, der Abdruck von 1815 muss deshalb fur das Original gelten. Einige lateinische parodistische Texte lassen darauf schliessen, dass der Schreiber Latein konnte. Ausserdem hat er sich fur historische Lieder, Farbensymbolik, Rondeaux und die spezielle Form der 'Virelais-Balladen' interessiert. Der Hauptinhalt des Liederbuchs sind aber Lieder, wie sie in Liederbuchern der Zeit haufig sind. Burghart Wachinger macht mit diesem Band den Abdruck Fichards einer breiten Offentlichkeit zuganglich, erlautert die Texte sachlich und sprachlich und weist weitere Uberlieferungen nach.
Die ATB ist die traditionsreichste Editionsreihe der germanistischen
Mediävistik. Begründet 1881 von Hermann Paul, wurde sie von führenden
Fachvertretern, Georg Baesecke, Hugo Kuhn, Burghart Wachinger, betreut. Seit
2001 liegt die Verantwortung in den Händen von Christian Kiening. Die
mittlerweile etwa 120 Bände verknüpfen exemplarisch Handschriftennähe und
Lesbarkeit, wissenschaftliche Arbeit am Text und Blick auf die akademische
Lehre. Sie umfassen anerkannte, zum Teil kommentierte Ausgaben 'klassischer'
Autoren der Zeit um 1200, aber auch veritable Werkausgaben (Notker der
Deutsche) und anspruchsvolle Neueditionen (Eckenlied, Heinrich von dem
Türlin).
