Focusing on the theoretical foundations and applications of a novel numerical model, this work explores wave propagation in infinite domains, particularly in ideal fluids and elastic structures. The model employs a coupled finite element/scaled boundary finite element method (FEM/SBFEM) to simulate linear waves, fluid-structure, and soil-structure interactions. Unique features include dimension reduction without fundamental solutions and efficient handling of various boundary conditions. Applications span acoustics, offshore wind turbine dynamics, and seismic building analysis, demonstrating the algorithm's accuracy and efficiency through benchmark examples.
