Vrchního inspektora Alfreda Dovera považovali kolegové za skvrnu Scotland Yardu. Dokonce prý byl povýšen, aby se ho na jednom okrsku zbavili. Ale po celém Londýně jej nikdo nechtěl. A teď zlobí jej žaludek a prý smí vykonávat jen lehčí práce. Šéf se zase pořádně rozčílil. Inspektor Dover tedy odjíždí s detektivním seržantem 2. stupně Charlesem E. MacGregorem do malé vesnice Thornwich vyšetřit, kdo místním ženám již týdny posílá anonymní oplzlé dopisy. Uznejte, případ pro Scotland Yard nezajímavý, ale ta Lady Alice se nedala odbýt. Vyšetřování se rozbíhá… jak se kde chytit, kde je motiv? A do toho ještě pokus o sebevraždu(či vražda?). Na malou vesnici je to příliš… Metody vyšetřování inspektora Dovera jsou tak zvláštní… Opravdu tak zvláštní… Muž, obtloustlý, pohodlný, považovaný za nejhoršího detektiva Scotland Yardu není tím pravým hrdinou. Je divoký, bláznivý, neuvěřitelný. Rozhodně však stojí za to se s ním seznámit. Kniha totiž potěší všechny milovníky detektivky a zároveň anglického humoru.... celý text
