Damit erweitert die Studie ein allgemeines Verständnis von Bildpolitik, das von einer unangefochtenen Totalität von Macht ausgeht, die der Moderne angehört, dem Mittelalter und seinen Bildern aber fremd war. Die diesen Bildern eigene Dialektik erweist sich als eine genuine "Politologie des Bildes".
