      Als Mitbegründer der Designgruppe Memphis (mit Ettore Sottsass, Andrea Branzi, Aldo Cibic, Michele de Lucchi und Michael Graves) ist der italienische Designer und Architekt Matteo Thun (geb. 1952) für einige der markantesten Produktstile der letzten Zeit verantwortlich. Die farbenfrohen postmodernen Möbel der Memphis-Gruppe, mit ihrer skurrilen Mischung aus Kitsch und Futurismus, halfen, das Produktdesign der frühen bis mittleren 1980er Jahre zu definieren. In den frühen 90er Jahren brachte Thun seine fröhliche Ästhetik zu Swatch, wo er bis 1993 Kreativdirektor war. Campari, Illy Kaffee, Philips Elektronik und Porsche sind nur einige der Marken, die Thun mit seinem unverwechselbaren Stil belebt hat. In seiner architektonischen Arbeit wurde sein Side Hotel in Hamburg 2001 als Hotel des Jahres ausgezeichnet, und 2004 gewann sein Vigilius Bergresort den Wallpaper Design Award.
