One of the oldest railway routes in London, this line has seen all forms of traction from atmospheric, through the steam era, to overhead and conductor rail electric. These are fully described and the complicated story of the many junctions is untangled. The unusual branches to Deptford Wharf and Bricklayers' Arms are included in detail. Includes 120 photographs, large scale maps, and other details of local history.

The Longmoor Military Railway started life as the Woolmer Instructional Military Railway in a barren undeveloped part of East Hampshire, in the early years of the century. Thousands of servicemen were trained on the line in all aspects of railway construction and operation, using a very diverse collection of rolling stock and equipment. This is fully illustrated, together with many of the memorable public open days.
