Without requiring special knowledge this book introduces the basic terms, theoretical approaches and methods of education studies. In the first part, the basic terms upbringing, education and socialisation as well as linked theories and their importance to pedagogic situations are described through case studies. The second part inquires after the academic nature of statements on upbringing, education and socialisation. To this end different views of academics and science are presented and scrutinised in their usefulness for pedagogic actions. This book is not only a textbook for students but gives a general introduction to education studies.
