This volume examines a unique narrative within the German banking sector from a scientific viewpoint. Established in 1921, the German People's Bank, later known as the National Bank, served as a financial institution for the working class, particularly aligned with Christian Trade Unions during the Weimar Republic. These unions opposed social democratic and communist ideologies, promoting Christian values. Following the global economic crisis and the rise of the Nazis, trade unionists were forcibly removed, leading to a reorganization of the bank in 1933 as the National Bank, which then functioned as a regional bank for the middle class under the Third Reich. After the war's destruction and subsequent denazification, a new chapter in banking history emerged during the economic miracle, where the bank continues to represent a significant aspect of the Federal Republic of Germany's success story. This study utilizes previously unpublished sources from the historical archives of the National Bank in Essen, offering fresh insights into its legacy. The text is presented in German.
