Exploring the portrayal of Judah's last major king, the book delves into biblical texts and their cultural adaptations. It argues that no reliable contemporary material exists from Josiah's time, suggesting that the accounts in Kings, Chronicles, and First Esdras reflect a constructed memory of his reign. The study examines the narratives' elements and how Josiah's history has been interpreted in historiography and artistic representations, highlighting the complexities of his legacy in both literature and culture.
