Fictionalized biography of the last thirty years of the French sculptor Camille Claudel. She and August Rodin have been lovers. Camille has been put in a service home, against her will. She abides her time, waiting for visitors, who rarely come to visit her. Then her brother Paul takes her out, to the beach. Camille prepares carefully for the ride and the walk. Long periods of waiting; lots of memories; streams of thoughts, they all come and pass by. Described as only the French can; Desbordes’ writing is a fine example of French writing. JM
